Sick To Death

Hello Family and Friends,

If you know anything about Britt and I, you should know Britt has an amazing immune system and I have a horrible one. I catch anything and everything.

Yesterday I went to K-State's Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas for a doctor appointment because I wasn't feeling good. Upon calling to get an appointment, the scheduler made me feel as if I was being interrogated. None of the illnesses I presented seemed good enough to see the doctor. I was presented with a sore throat, nasal congestion, and a minor cough. Finally, I got an appointment to see one of the doctors and I might as well have felt like the guy in the comic below.

The doctor pretty much confirmed all my aliments. He said that since I didn't present a fever that he was going to rule out strep as well as a bacterial infection. He said he was pretty sure it was a viral infection and that I should just take an expectorant and a nasal spray. I've done all the following and so far I still feel as bad as I did when I went into the doctor's office.

Today, I called the Health Center to see if I could receive a doctor's note verifying that I was indeed sick for my job. The nurse said all she could do was give me a note saying that I was in to visit the doctor. I was baffled that they couldn't give me a note verifying that I was sick. I, of course, asked why and the nurse said because I didn't authorize the release of that information. Okay! I'm the one requesting the doctor's note, but I can't have it because I didn't authorize the doctor to release my information to me? How messed up is that? So...I asked the nurse what if I signed a document saying that I authorized the release of that information to me? She said that if I did that then it would take up to a week to get the doctor's note ready. WOW! Some healthcare we have here at K-State. I'm glad the Health Center is pulling money out of my tuition with their fees. It just makes me feel so much better when I'm paying for these people to have their jobs and I get treated like this. I'm so sick to death of this Health Center.

Thanks for reading,
Britt and Liz

It's Official!

Hello Friends and Family,

Well, it is official. Britt and I are now engaged. He proposed at Wolfcreek Ski Resort in Colorado on March 13, 2010. He proposed at the bottom of the slope with some of my family and his family there.

How did it all go down? Well, I was sitting over in one of the lodges after a morning of skiing. Britt was sitting with me for a while until he decided to go to the bathroom (which actually was when he called my parents). I then told him to go out on the slopes without me because I was sore already and needed a break. Well, he came back in after about 10 minutes which is a very fast run. So...I asked him if there was anything wrong. He said "no, but I talked to a guy up at the ski lift that had this amazing hat and I was wondering if you would go look at it with me?" I said sure and proceeded to go with him to the shop. When we got to the shop I realized that there was no hats there. So I thought we were heading to the other shop and when we got around the corner, I saw my family and his family stand there. Britt dropped to one knee and with a huge smile asked if I would marry him. My first reaction was no you didn't and I actually said "no" and gave him a kiss which of course meant yes. He then put the ring on my finger and I cried a bit and gave him a bunch of hugs and kisses. Then of course we spend time thanking the family for being there and taking bunches of pictures.

Here a just a few of them!

AFTER THE KISS

As for after the proposal, it took a while for it all to sink in for Britt and I. We've always talked about it and joked about it and now that it was here, it just seemed too good to be true. We contacted the rest of the family first to let them know all the juice details and then posted it on facebook.

What is next to come? Well, we have unofficial decided on the date. We are looking at September 10th, 2011 (9-10-11). We've already got a church reserved as well as other things. So...just a heads up you might want to leave that date open. Britt and I are looking at getting our engagement pictures done too. We would like to do them probably around the time that the wheat is ready to be harvested. Anyone have any cute ideas for pictures? We thought about one with Britt carrying me though a wheat field.

Well, thanks for catching up on our lives and look forward to more posts and comments!

Love,
Liz and Britt

To New Beginnings

Hello Family and Friends,

I've decided to follow in the footsteps of my older sister and create a blog so Britt and I can keep everyone up to date with what is going on in our lives. Even though Britt and I are not official getting married yet, I have a feeling an engagement will be coming soon. So...therefore the blog will be named Barton-Neely Family Adventures.

What have Britt and I been up to lately? Currently Britt is in Washington D.C. finishing up with his FDIC school for his job. Britt currently lives in Salina, Kansas because that is where his job is located for now. I'm currently at K-State in Manhattan, Kansas trying to finish up my Human Resources degree. I plan on graduating this May and hopefully finding a job.

What is to come? Britt and I have been very busy looking into what is next to come. I'm going to be graduating in May and so everything is going to get frantic around then.

We are decided where we would like to live and where we would like to raise our children. There are 3 possible options for us and there are pros and cons to all.

Salina
• Pros
o Britt likes his co-workers there
o Housing is going to be fairly reasonable
o 1 decent school
• Cons
o Family not too close
o Not the best of cities (lots of drugs and crime)
o Hospital selection slightly limited
o Liz might not get a job offer there

Wichita
• Pros
o Liz’s Family is close
o Huge hospital selection
o Liz has a good chance of getting a job offer
o Britt will have an option for transfer in about 4 months
o Close to shopping
o There are some decent schools
• Cons
o Not the best of cities (lots of drugs and crime)
o Housing is going to be fairly expensive
o No peaceful country unless 20 to 30 minutes away from there

Chanute
• Pros
o Britt’s Family is close
o Housing is going to be more reasonable
o Good school
o Peaceful country living
o Farm options
• Cons
o Britt might not get a job transfer there for another 5 years
o 2 hour drive from real shopping
o Hospital selection limited
o Liz might not get a job offer there

Well besides decided where we are going to start our live, we are looking into how many little rascals we would like to have. If it were up to Britt then we would be looking at 2 to 3 little ones. However, if it were up to me then we would be looking at 5 to 6 little ones. But, we really can’t plan too much for this because surprises happen! God bless little children.

Wedding Bells! Britt and I have unofficial set our wedding date. We have reserved the church however we have to see how everything else works out. We think we are going to get married in Wichita just because there is a lot more there to offer. Lot more hotels, bakeries, and much more. However, we do love Chanute but just don’t know if the town could survive a night with the whole Barton clan. If you are a Barton then you know exactly what I am talking about. However, the Neely family sure does know how to shake stuff up and put things down.

Anyhow, I hope this blog will help you stay in touch with us and with what is going on in our lives. We wish the best for everyone and hope to see you all at an upcoming wedding (crossing my fingers) soon.

Love,
Liz and Britt
